Rainbow Snippets March 28-29

The Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook asks its members to share six sentence snippets from their work each weekend (I'll beg forgiveness in advance for sometimes going over the sentence limit!). Check out the group's Facebook page to read all the snippets and add lots of great books to your TBR. You'll find all sorts of books with the common thread that the main character identifies as LGBTQ.

I'm working through edits and getting To Know a Dragon Spy, the second Dragons of Ivria book, ready to publish, so I thought I would share some snippets from the book. Here's a description of the book:

Felix is a prince, cousin of the current king, ward of the old king. Knowing he would never sit on the throne, he set himself to become something else—the king's best spy. Aside from a trusted few, people know him as a frivolous, flirtatious prince. They don't see the keen mind behind the silks and jewels or the love of family and quiet behind the charming smile. They certainly don't know he is the eyes and ears of the king. Months later, he still blames himself for missing the plot against Ivria and its king, and he's going to find the last few members of the conspiracy out there. If the commander of the king's guard will get out of his way.

Alan is commander of the king's guard, a role he set himself on a path for when he was very young. He takes his duty seriously, so seriously there is little room for anything else in his life, even more so now with the heightened danger to the royal family—not the things he used to enjoy or family or even love. He buried his attraction to beautiful Prince Felix long ago, but when he finds out Felix is more than he appears, Alan immediately becomes suspicious. Is Felix working for the king or against him? Alan can't let himself be fooled by a pretty face, especially one that hides so much.

But the real danger is closer than Felix and Alan realize, and they'll have to get over their animosity toward each other—and deal with the desire that sparks when they do—if they're going to survive it.

This snippet follows directly after last week's.

Book Recs for the Trans Rights Readathon

3/29/2026

I meant to share this list last week, but everything got away from me. But, the Trans Rights Readathon isn't over yet—and really, we should read trans books all the time anyway. So, I'm sharing some books with trans main characters that I've enjoyed and I hope you might too. It's always difficult for me to narrow these lists down because there are so many fantastic books I could add.

I've also listed my books with trans characters below, but I'm not a trans author. If you want to read some more fantasy romance with trans characters, I would, of course, love it if you read mine, but please support lots of trans authors too.

Backlist Update!

All right, my darlings, the Chronicles of Tournai and Elemental Magicae books are reappearing on retailers' sites as we speak! Some retailers have been really quick, others slower (including libraries), so if you don't see a book at your retailer of choice, please be patient and check back again a little later.

For now, they are only available in ebook. There will be paperbacks again, but probably not for a couple of months—the cover artist is really busy and can't fit me in until later to revise the paperback covers. I am so grateful to her that she was able to squeeze the ebook covers so quickly!

If you've already read these, no need to buy them again—absolutely nothing has changed from the previous versions. (It's so tempting to start revising, but if I did, I knew I wouldn't be able to stop, especially with my earlier books—I love the stories and characters, but my writing has changed so much in the years since I wrote them!) But I would so appreciate it if you could leave a review wherever you purchased the book. All of the prior reviews disappeared when the books were taken down, and reviews help so very much.

And if you haven't read it yet, I've put The Prince's Consort on sale for 99c (or equivalent) through March at all retailers, so now is a great time to grab it.

Chronicles of Tournai
The Prince's Consort
The Artist's Masquerade
The Scholar's Heart
The Sorcerer's Guardian
The Dragon's Devotion
The Merchant's Love
The Merchant's Love

Elemental Magicae
A Dance of Water and Air
A Harmony of Fire and Earth

My February Reading

February was a busy month of juggling revisions/edits and getting my backlist books ready to self-publish, so I didn't have much time to read. But I do have a few recent reads to share with you:

Read An Ebook Week Sale (and a backlist update)

The Smashwords Read an Ebook Week sale starts today! To Love the Dragon King is 50% off there through this week. Grab it cheap while you can and read it before To Know a Dragon Spy comes out!

I was hoping to have at least some of my backlist available again by now so they would be part of the sale too, but that hasn't happened yet. I'm just waiting on the cover artist to revise the covers to take off the publisher's logo—but she's busy and doing her best to fit me in, and I hope I'll have them soon. I won't be doing preorders for these backlist books, so as soon as I have the covers, I'll start listing them and let you know. Ebooks will be out first with paperbacks to follow later (since those covers will take longer). If I get any of them for sale this week, I'll try to add them to the Smashwords sale and let you know. *fingers crossed*

Edited to add: The Chronicles of Tournai and Elemental Magicae ebooks are slowly making their back to retailers, and some of them are back on Smashwords and included in the sale. You can find my books on Smashwords here.
