Rules for Ghosting by Shelly Jay Shore (Trans M/cis M paranormal romance): Ezra is trans and Jewish and can see ghosts, which has made him understandably avoid his family's funeral home. But now circumstances push him back into the business and push him to deal with many things that have been haunting him that are not literal ghosts (the ghosts play a part, but this isn't a paranormal-heavy plot). It's a book about connections and relationships and family and hit hard for me emotionally. The romance was lovely and ends happily, but I wouldn't say is the focus of the book.
The Mirror by Nora Roberts (M/F paranormal romance): The Mirror is the second book in the Lost Brides trilogy, Nora Roberts's latest paranormal series. And is another book with ghosts that I read in December! It continues the plot and romance of the first book, Inheritance (so start there), in which Sonya inherits an old Victorian house in Maine from an uncle she didn't know existed and finds it haunted with mostly friendly ghosts and cursed by a very unfriendly one. I'm looking forward to the last book.
On Circus Lane by Lily Morton (M/M contemporary romance): On Circus Lane is the first book in the Wright Brothers series; however, the second book, Merry Measure, came out a few years ago, so I guess this is kind of a prequel. I remember that when I read Merry Measure, I thought it would be fun to have the story of Tom and Bee, who were already together in that book, and On Circus Lane tells their story. It's billed as an enemies to lovers romance, but I didn't get that feel from it—Bee gets the wrong idea about Tom at the beginning but the misunderstanding is cleared up quickly and it turns into a lovely, sweet, funny Christmas romance set in Scotland. I reread Merry Measure right after and enjoyed it as much as I did when I first read it (though I did notice a few timeline issues between the two).
Curse of Silver & Blood by Sheena Jolie (M/M paranormal romance): I'm a fan of Sheena Jolie's books, so I grabbed this novella as soon as it came out and dove in. It was a quick read but an enjoyable one, a story of fated mates set in the wider world that includes the author's Beacon Hill Sorcerer books. The romance—a lonely cursed werewolf stumbling upon his mate, a fae escaping from captivity, in the woods—was sweet and their connection was lovely. Just what I needed.
