This month, I'm sharing some snippets from The Envoy's Honor, which is a adversaries to lovers, dragon shifter romance that is part of the Chronicles of Tournai series, though it can be read as a stand alone. In The Envoy's Honor, a delegation from Ivria comes to Tournai afraid the secret of their existence and of the existence of dragons has been revealed by Corentin. Kirill is one of them and wants only to protect his home and people. Griffen's brother is going to marry Corentin, and Griffen wants only to protect his family, putting him in opposition to Kirill. The two circle around each other, attracted but unable to trust—until there is a murder and they have to rely on each other to solve it and save both their peoples. But he couldn’t help walking toward Kirill. Couldn’t help a little thrill when Kirill noticed him, when something rippled briefly over his face—surprise? attraction?—before it smoothed back into a bland mask. Griffen had seen it, though, and…he wasn’t going to do a thing about it. He wasn’t. In fact, he should be turning around and walking right back to the palace to wait for Philip, Amory, and Cathal somewhere safer. But he couldn’t just turn around—doing so would be unforgivably rude. However, he would not flirt. He would bid Kirill good morning. Perhaps he could ferret out whether Kirill was likely to be amenable to some kind of negotiation or compromise or just sensible discussion because he wasn’t sure what a compromise would look like between what their two sides wanted. He was willing to try though.
“Good morning, Master Kirill,” Griffen said as soon as he was close enough.
“Good morning. But you have me at a disadvantage.”
They hadn’t been introduced, had they? He’d forgotten somehow. “I apologize. I’m Lord Griffen. The Earl of Ardesia is my brother.”
Kirill inclined his head. “My lord.”
Griffen liked the sound of his low voice, liked the way he enunciated each word so precisely. What would his name sound like on Kirill’s lips?
He had to stop thinking this way.
“Good morning, Master Kirill,” Griffen said as soon as he was close enough.
“Good morning. But you have me at a disadvantage.”
