More Stops on The Sorcerer's Guardian Blog Tour

The Sorcerer's Guardian blog tour continues today. I'm visiting My Fiction Nook, talking about the fun I had with the forced proximity trope in The Sorcerer's Guardian, and I'm sharing another excerpt at Velvetpanic. Let me know what you think, and don't forget to enter the giveaway!

About The Sorcerer's Guardian

Picture

Savarin, the most powerful sorcerer in Tournai, has honed his Talent through years of study and made magic his life. Among the wealthy and noble circles he moves in, no one would suspect the handsome, refined, and arrogant sorcerer’s humble beginnings, which is how Savarin prefers it. Tournai’s princes task Savarin with studying and strengthening the spells that protect the principality from magical attack. They are complex, centuries old, and exactly the type of puzzle Savarin is eager to solve. To his annoyance, the princes insist Loriot accompanies him.

Loriot worked his way up the ranks of the royal guard to captain and takes pride in his service. He must obey the princes’ orders to protect Savarin, despite believing his skills would be best used elsewhere. And despite his wariness of magic. UnTalented himself, he has learned not only the benefits of magic but also its potential for harm—and how to counter it. Loriot and Savarin clash during their journey, but there’s another reason for the tension between them, and passion develops into feelings neither expected. But Savarin must still fortify Tournai’s magical barrier, and his only solution endangers both him and the royal family.

Rainbow Snippet November 26-27

11/26/2016

It's weekend, and time for more Rainbow Snippets. The Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook asks its members to share six sentence snippets from their work each weekend. Check out the group's Facebook page to read all the snippets and add lots of great books to your tbr. You'll find all sorts of books with the common thread that the main character identifies as LGBTQ+.

This week I have another snippet from The Sorcerer's Guardian (which will be out on Monday!) for you. It's a bit longer than six sentences (sorry!). Savarin and Loriot stopped for the night at an inn early in their journey and are getting on their way in the morning, and Loriot is learning what life is often like for Savarin.
Picture
Loriot was there, standing near the saddled horses with the innkeeper’s daughter. She handed Loriot a bag, presumably containing the promised food, and Loriot smiled at the girl. Savarin heard him thank her as he walked closer. She smiled and blushed slightly, the gaze she directed at Loriot just a bit adoring. Savarin ignored them and went to the horses to secure his bags. The innkeeper’s daughter jumped when she saw him and fell into another curtsy, stumbling a bit before she turned and scurried away mumbling a few words about returning to her duties.

Loriot turned to Savarin with the same quizzical look he’d had at breakfast. Only this time Loriot didn’t leave the question unspoken. “What was that about?” Loriot asked as he secured the food in one of his saddlebags. “The innkeeper’s daughter acting like that?”

He mounted up before he answered, taking time to decide if he wanted to explain and how much. “I’m the most powerful sorcerer in Tournai.”

“And?” Loriot mounted his own horse, then turned an inquiring gaze on him.

“And she obviously knew that.”

“And?”

“And that makes some people uncomfortable.”

Rainbow Snippet November 19-20

This week I have another snippet from The Sorcerer's Guardian (which will be out on November 28th!) for you. In this snippet, Loriot and Savarin have just begun their journey. They're being ferried across the river, and Loriot is using the quiet to think about his companion.
Picture

Beside him, Savarin stared off into the distance, but Loriot didn’t think he was seeing the landscape as Loriot did. What was Savarin thinking about that so distracted him? He had to concede that Prince Philip probably had a point in sending Loriot if Savarin was habitually so distracted. Still, Loriot took the opportunity to study Savarin surreptitiously.

Savarin was a handsome man, far too handsome really. When Loriot had seen him for the first time years ago, he hadn’t quite been able to believe the man was real with his near-perfect features and tall, lean frame. Savarin’s aloofness and arrogance had convinced him otherwise.

Guest Post and Giveaway: Heartifact by Aisling Mancy

11/17/2016

Aisling Mancy is visiting today to tell us more about Heartifact. Welcome, Ash!
Picture
Welcome to the Blog Tour for Heartifact! A very special thanks to Antonia Aquilante for hosting me today! It’s great to be here!

My newest novella, Heartifact, is an enchanting romance that combines the contemporary adventure of an undersea archaeological dig with ancient Greek myth. The story centers on a risky salvage operation of a trireme, and quite possibly one of Alexander the Great’s warships.

Harper Kidd, (no coincidence that he bears a pirate’s last name), is a respected marine archaeologist, and is plagued by beautiful dreams of an undersea lover as he embarks on the excavation. His best friend, Stick, is a marine scientist with expertise in undersea robotics, and she possesses a wicked sense of humor.

As it turns out, the trireme they salvage sits over the ruins of an ancient Greek civilization. In the great hall of those ruins, Harper finds a statue of the ancient Greek god—the very god who stars in his dreams. Harper is caught between ancient myth and reality as he falls in love with the mysterious man, and struggles to keep a level head to oversee the archeological dig.

I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you this novella means a lot to me. I advocate for abused youth and 100% of the net proceeds from this book go to benefit those youth in three countries.

Heartifact debuts in French and English on November 24th, and in Italian in January 2017, and comes to you from Men Over the Rainbow and our lovely Bénédicte Girault. I hope you enjoy Heartifact as much as I enjoyed writing it. Go read the book!

About Heartifact

Harper Kidd is a highly respected marine archaeologist. Yet, with the economy in a slump, he’s trapped working in an oil company’s exploration division. Now, at the ripe age of thirty, Harp is disgusted with his employer’s damage to the undersea world he loves, tired of his ATM-card-filching ex, and tormented by beautiful dreams of an undersea lover. It’s time for a change and when his best friend, Stick, pleads with him to assist on a deep-sea dig in the Mediterranean, he jumps at the chance.

Harper’s spirits are high when they discover the ruins of an ancient civilization, and soar to the heavens when they discover a statue of an ancient pelora, a mysterious hybrid creature said to mediate between the worlds of reality and fantasy—and the very lover who holds the starring role in his dreams.

When the crew discovers the site is teeming with unexploded ordnance from the conflicts in the Middle East, and the excavation turns deadly, Harper must choose between saving his best friend and saving the pelora he’s fallen in love with.

Net proceeds from Heartifact benefit the The Trevor Project in the US,
le Refuge in France, and Arcigay in Italy

About Aisling Mancy

Ash is an author who lives, most of the time, on the West Coast of the United States. Ash writes mystery thrillers, fantasy, science fiction, romance, and fiction for gay young adults as C. Kennedy.

Raised on the mean streets and back lots of Hollywood by a Yoda-look-alike grandfather, Ash doesn’t conform, doesn’t fit in, is epic awkward, and lives to perfect a deep-seated oppositional defiance disorder. In a constant state of fascination with the trivial, Ash contemplates such weighty questions as If time and space are curved, then where do all the straight people come from? When not writing, Ash can be found taming waves on western shores, pondering the nutritional value of sunsets, appreciating the much-maligned dandelion, unhooking guide ropes from stanchions, and marveling at all things ordinary. Ash does respond to emails because, after all, it is all about you, the reader.
