The Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by KJ Charles (M/M historical romance): Rufus has unexpectedly become an earl and is dealing with a greedy uncle and aunt who want to prove he isn't the real earl and an estate that is falling apart. Luke Doomsday seems to be a pawn in Rufus's uncle's scheme, but he has motives of his own for his presence. And he turns out to be exactly what Rufus needs first as a secretary and then as a lover and friend. I started reading this book when it came out at the end of September, but we were getting into spooky season and my brain insisted I put it aside for something seasonal. I devoured it as soon as I picked it back up. This book ties up all the loose ends from The Secret Lives of Country Gentleman, including giving us Luke thirteen years later, all grown up, finally dealing with what happened. Just delightful all around. (Probably best to read the first book first to really understand the characters and background.)
Dragon's Dawn by Sam Burns and WM Fawkes (M/M fantasy romance): Evgeny, brought up to be the perfect courtier by his mother, is shocked when his father arranges a marriage for him without his knowledge to Mikhail, the king's cousin and a dragon rider. From the first moment, the two do not get along but they have to find a way to trust each other if they're going to survive the plotting, intrigue, and danger coming their way. I also devoured this series opener. I loved the characters and the fantasy world created (plus dragons and an adorable mink!). The rest of the series is already out, so I'll be diving into those.
Elatsoe by Darcy Little Badger (YA paranormal): Ellie is Lipan Apache and an asexual teen who lives in an America shaped by magic, monsters, and legends. She can also raise ghosts and has a ghost dog—and is only discovering the extent of her power, something passed down through the generations of her people. When her cousin dies, he tells her in a dream that he was murdered, and she sets out to solve the crime and bring his murderer to justice. I've had this book on my Kindle for a while, and I'm so glad I finally got to it. Ellie and her friends and family were wonderful, as were the bonds between them, and the world building was incredibly intriguing. I'm looking forward the the prequel out next year.
The Lighthouse Keeper by Liv Rancourt (M/M historical fantasy romance): Vincent is sent to the isolated West Point Lighthouse by the Witches' Council to find a dangerous stolen magical artifact, but when he arrives, the situation is not as how it was described to him. He finds that the thief is dead and his adult son (who is attractive and very powerful) is also searching for the artifact to keep a great evil from being unleashed on the world. First off, I loved the atmospheric setting in this novel. The romance was lovely, and the magic was intriguing. And I adored supporting character Margaret. I'm hoping for more in this world.
