Rainbow Snippet June 11-12

It's weekend and time for Rainbow Snippets! The Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook asks its members to share six sentence snippets from their work each weekend. Check out the group's Facebook page to read all the snippets and add lots of great books to your tbr. You'll find all sorts of books with the common thread that the main character will identify as LGBTQ+.

My snippets comes from the newly released The Scholar's Heart again this weekend. In last week's snippet, Tristan held his baby daughter for the first time. This week's snippet comes almost right after when his best friend Amory rushes over to make sure Tristan is all right, and they talk. Tristan speaks first, and Dariela is Tristan's wife who died in childbirth. (I went a little over six sentences this week...sorry!)

“Mother wants to take her.”

“The baby? Why?” Amory kept his voice down, certainly out of deference to the sleeping baby—a father himself, he would know well the consequences of waking an infant—but his sharp surprise was still obvious.

“She doesn’t think I can care for her properly without Dariela.” Tristan sighed. “She could be right. I don’t know anything about babies. I never imagined being a father, not really. Not sure I ever wanted to be one.”

“And now?” There was no judgment in Amory’s tone, just the understanding and support of long friendship. Tristan’s whole body relaxed hearing it. He’d needed his friend here, even if he hadn’t admitted it.

“Now....” He studied Bria’s face again. “I love her. It’s stunning how much, how quickly.”

Thanks for stopping by, everyone! Have a lovely weekend!

Don't worry, Tristan, instinct (and Amory) will surely come to your rescue! :-)

Aww poor Tristan but yes, I think his instincts will take over. This is a very nice scene for them.

Fatherhood is good for Tristan. He's now saying all the right things, not to mention meaning them with his entire heart. A beautiful moment.

Thank you. It really is. Tristan is starting to grow up some more, and fatherhood is a big part of that.

Yep, Tristan, that's what parenthood does to a person! Nice snippet.

I love the way Tristan's confusion comes through and how he relaxes with the support of his friend.
