The Merchant's Love comes out from NineStar Press is a couple of weeks (where did time go?), so I thought I'd share some snippets from it this month. The Merchant's Love is the sixth book in the Chronicles of Tournai series, but, like all the books in the series, it stands alone. It's the story of Faelen, cousin to the prince and son of an ambassador, and Maxen, second son of a merchant family. Faelen is demisexual and Maxen is bi. I really loved writing their evolving relationship and HEA. Today's snippet is the first time they speak to each other.
“Do you want to dance?”
The voice beside him startled Faelen. When he saw Maxen, his mind went a bit blank. “What?”
Thankfully Maxen smiled despite Faelen’s rude response. “You’re watching everyone dancing. I thought you might wish you were too.”
Had he? He’d felt a bit wistful, but it wasn’t as if he couldn’t find someone to partner with if he really wanted to.
“I could be wrong, though.” Maxen’s smile turned wry and just slightly unsure at the edges. “And you can tell me so, or tell me to be quiet.”
Faelen couldn’t help his own smile, though nerves jumped in his stomach. He was never sure how to handle it when someone displayed an interest in him. Not that Maxen was necessarily interested.
