Rainbow Snippet - March 5-6

It's the weekend and that means it's time again for Rainbow Snippets! Participants post six sentence snippets (though I have been notice to cheat a bit on the sentence count...) to the Facebook group for everyone to enjoy. Head over to the group page to read all of this week's snippets.

My snippet is from The Prince's Consort. This is from when Prince Philip first meets Amory. Amory's father, Arnau, is a wealthy merchant who owns the finest glassmaking business in Tournai, but he's late on a commission for the prince, and Philip has called him to account for himself. Philip is shocked by what Arnau tries to do.

"One more week, and the chandelier will be completed to perfection. It will be the most impressive gift the king and queen of Amaranta receive.” Arnau’s face didn’t change, but a calculating gleam came to his eyes. “In the meantime, perhaps I can do something to apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you.”

He couldn’t wait to hear what Arnau thought would appease him. If Philip hadn’t needed the highest- quality glasswork for the gift, he would never have done business with Arnau again.

“As you see, I brought my son Amory with me today.” Amory turned a puzzled gaze on his father, who was almost... smug. “I thought you might like to spend an evening together, Your Highness. Get to know each other.”

Complete silence fell. Arnau couldn’t be saying what it sounded like, could he?

Have a great weekend, everyone! Am I the only one who can't believe it's March already?

They are too, despite the inauspicious way they met.

Well that makes you take an instant dislike to the man, doesn't it?

He's definitely not a likable guy.

Late with the commission AND a procurer - Amau isn't winning any points, is he?

Not at all.

Dang, I really don't like Arnau. That's super gross of him. Sounds like Prince Philip is decent enough to recognize how awful that is.

Yep. Philip is horrified by what Arnau is trying to do here.

Ew. Poor Amory, being blindsided with that.

It's a bad time for Amory, but good things will follow.

Not much of a father. I wonder if he sells off his daughters too.

Still, I'm hoping we get to see Amory and Phillip getting to know one another.

Amory worries about that possibility too.

Arnau's plans don't go quite as he hopes but Amory and Philip end up quite happy to spend time together.

Someone should take a belt to that father. It'd be surprising if the two ever make eye contact, let alone talk... lovely snippet, really makes me want to know more.

Thank you. And Amory and Philip do manage it, despite Amory's horrible father.
