Happy weekend, everyone! It's dreary and rainy here (and has been for most of the week), but I hope the weather is better where you are. Since it's weekend, it's time for Rainbow Snippets. The Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook asks its members to share six sentence snippets from their work each weekend. My snippet this week is from The Scholar's Heart which will be out from Dreamspinner on May 30th. Last week I gave you a snippet of Cathal reacting to his brother Etan's heartbreak after Etan finds out Tristan is getting married. The Scholar's Heart begins a little before that moment, so I'm skipping back and giving you a happy Etan this week. Then maybe some of how he finds out Tristan is marrying someone else. So here's a little snippet of Etan and Tristan out for a ride one morning, Etan not knowing that his happiness isn't going to last much longer.

Once they were through the trees, the view opened up before them, with fields dotted with wildflowers and a rocky precipice tumbling down to the vivid blue of the sea. He’d rather walk along the cliffs or picnic at the top so he could better appreciate the view, but riding was exhilarating too. Well, any ride with Tristan was. Tristan was a skilled and fearless rider, who ended each ride flushed and smiling. Etan always wanted to grab him close and kiss him when he saw Tristan that way, to see if he could make Tristan breathless for another reason entirely.
Maybe today he would.
